I’m completely fed up with the attitude of Tumblr’s social justice “warriors”. It is true that people are still being oppressed based on their sexual orientation, race, sex etc. but that doesn’t mean that it’s okay to hate the “privileged”. It’s common sense that it’s not okay to tell a trans*/POC/gay/etc. person that they should die or that their problems don’t matter because that is extremely rude and cruel, so why is it suddenly okay to say the same thing to a straight/white/male person? Sure, it’s true that they don’t have to face the same hardships and hate as oppressed groups but that doesn’t mean that it’s completely acceptable for an oppressed person to act like a total dickhead towards someone just because “they have privilege”. Of course it’s okay to get mad if someone uses a harmful gender-, race- etc. based insult because it’s really offensive, but saying that someone is “scum” just because of their race/sexual orientation/sex is narrow-minded as fuck.
On Tumblr I often see someone claiming that it’s wrong to tell, for example, a black person to go kill themselves (it is) but that it’s okay to tell, for example, a straight guy to go kill himself just because they aren’t oppressed (it isn’t). I mean, what the hell? Why is it suddenly okay to discriminate against certain people based on their sex, sexual orientation and race? Because that’s what it is. It may not be sexism or racism but it’s still wrong. Just because someone doesn’t have it as hard as you do it doesn’t mean that you can act like a conceited fucktard. “Oh it’s okay to be hostile towards certain people because I’m oppressed~” makes a very crappy explanation. If you really claim that it’s okay to hate someone because they’re white, straight or male you are a disgrace to those who want to achieve equality. We shouldn’t ignore the fact that there’s still oppression and inequality but it’s never going to get better if people continue claiming that it’s completely okay to discriminate against certain groups. All humans should be treated equally, no exceptions.
